It was two years ago that I had the amazing experience of staying in beautiful Yunnan while doing a brief two week language study with some friends while in the Peace Corps.
This is a picture of Dali, the village where imperial monuments and wayward art colonies align. I also remember the first taste of western cuisine in nearly a year.
Yunnan is a tropical region with so much more than many places in modern day China. With one of the most famous hiking trails in the world, Chinese Puer Tea (the regional specialty – and many tea tasting opportunities to boot!), the legendary Stone forest, and most importantly, the disbelief that this is in fact the same country during winter time as the wayward north;
It probably saved our lives.☼
